APU Usage

APU Usage & Noise Restrictions

If operating within Europe it should be assumed that some type of curfew or noise restrictions exist until verified otherwise. In some cases those noise restrictions will apply to the use of auxiliary power units as well. Noise restrictions may be determined by using Jeppview REF pages, or by using online resources such as the airport’s website or by contacting the handler directly. It is the pilots responsibility to make this determination and the result of non-compliance will often be fines or airport bans.

At the right is an example of APU usage at Madrid airport (LEMD)
